Smart Chef is an innovative and exciting learning program available to students in Years 5 and 6 at Boggabri Public School. Each week, two students will work with Miss Breanna Jones to plan and cook nutritious food for sale from the school canteen.
The experiences will bring the concepts covered in Numeracy and Literacy Teams into focus; giving students a deep understanding of how to apply their knowledge and skills into a real-life situation.
The students provide suggestions for recipes and food ideas that they enjoy and like. Weekly takings will be analysed and profits measured. Serving will include the development of skills when managing change, with an emphasis on strengthening the accuracy and speed of mental arithmetic as well as learning how to prodvie good customer service. Embedded within the program will be the study of nutrition and a good balanced diet, the safe handling and preparation of food and cleaning up techniques.
Parent volunteers will continue to work in the canteen, giving their support and expertise to our Smart Chef team.
